Crunch&Sip on Holidays

Nicole Toia,

Whilst on holidays it’s important for adults and children to keep up healthy habits and routines such as Crunch&Sip breaks.  We have compiled a list of tips for keeping up Crunch&Sip whilst on holidays, and give you some insight to our Schools Nutrition Coordinators favourite Crunch&Sip options to have on the road.

Top tips for Crunching & Sipping whilst on holidays

Plan ahead and chop vegetables or fruit before you go. That way you don’t have to worry about lugging knives and chopping boards around with you. It also means you can spend less time preparing food and more time enjoying your surroundings.

Open that can of worms…or veg. Canned or tinned vegetables and fruit make for delicious and easy on the road snack. Plus, they don’t need refrigeration when unopened. Just be sure to choose the salt-reduced or no added sugar varieties and remember to pack a fork or spoon.

Make it colourful, crunching the rainbow ensures you give your body the best mix of vitamins and minerals for good health. It also makes for the best photos (hint hint…).

Pack lots of water. Australia’s warm climate and beautiful surroundings make for some great holiday adventures, but it’s important to make sure you pack plenty of water to keep your hydration and energy levels high.

My top on the road Crunch&Sip options:
  • Sugar snap peas: these crunchy pods of goodness are one of my favourite snacks. They are easy to eat, last well, and provide a good crunch when eating.
  • Tinned corn: a perfect sweet and juicy snack for when you are camping or hiking adventures.
  • Cut up oranges: a refreshing boost of energy, particularly on those warmer days.
  • A big bottle of water: I can’t leave the house or campground without one!
