Previous Great Vegie Crunch Events

2017

During the week of the 4th September 2017, 27,402 kids from 91 Western Australian primary schools simultaneously crunched on fresh vegetables as part of The Great Vegie Crunch. Funded by the Agricultural Produce Commission for the third year, the event was a fantastic success.

2016

Over 21, 500 Western Australian primary school-aged children representing 94 primary schools participated in The Great Aussie Crunch in 2016. Funded by the Agricultural Produce Commission for the second year, the event encouraged students to bring their choice of crunchy fresh vegetables to school and all CRUNCH simultaneously.

The students from Palmyra Primary School were very lucky to have a visit from Rio Olympian Joel Swift, and Vegie Man was super busy visiting schools in Perth and Kalgoorlie.

2015

In 2015 over 21, 000 students, representing 78 schools participating in the Great Aussie Crunch. Channel 9 reporter Sara Polanski and the crew from the Today show turned up bright and early at the launch to chat to Vegie Man and students from Canning Vale Primary School.

Thanks to Belmont Primary School who hosted WA Institute of Sport athletes Jesse Phillips and Olivia Vivian and the Channel 9 Today crew for their Great Aussie Crunch in 2014!

THE INAUGURAL GREAT AUSSIE CRUNCH WAS HELD ON TUESDAY 17 SEPTEMBER 2013. APPROXIMATELY 30 000 WESTERN AUSTRALIAN KIDS CRUNCHED APPLES OR CARROTS IN 2013 AND 2014.

Here are some comments from schools who participated:

We assembled the whole school in the undercover area and the Principal led a count down. Parents provided crunchy vegetables. ALL students eating crunchy veg all day! Great to see! Forest Crescent Primary School, Thornlie.

The students thoroughly enjoyed trying to have their crunch heard around the country! East Victoria Park Education Support Centre.

We had lots of fun participating in the Great Aussie Crunch! It was hilarious listening to the synchronised crunching - the children all loved it! St Patrick's School, Katanning.

Crunch crunch munch munch yummy in our tummies! We crunched like very hungry crocodiles at Winthrop Primary School.

Deputies were on the PA ready for the count down. Children stayed in their classrooms - fruit poised and ready to crunch. It was 3, 2, 1 and CRUNCH! Wow, it was great. We heard it in the office! It was an enjoyable and healthy moment for Boulder Primary School.

The kindy children loved the crunch-o-meter and every time they crunched they got louder and louder. The Great Aussie Crunch is a great concept to reinforce what the school is already doing within their program. Our children are crunching every day! Hensman St Pre-School.

All the students were very enthusiastic about the event. We even had the local newspaper come down and join us. O'Connor Primary School.
