Setting Up
Before starting Crunch&Sip® in the classroom, teachers could discuss:
- Amount of fruit and vegetables students currently eat
- Amount of water students currently drink
- Importance of fruit, vegetables and water as part of a healthy diet. See healthy eating
- Recommended daily servings
- Classroom rules for eating and drinking
- Food and drink that is and isn't allowed. See permitted list
To keep it going, teachers could:
- Remind students to keep a bottle of water on their desk or in an allocated place in the classroom
- Remind parents to provide fruit or vegetables with notes or brochure
- Choose a structured five minute Crunch&Sip® break in the morning or afternoon
- Encourage students to eat a small piece of fruit or vegetables in the classroom during the break
- Encourage students to drink plain water throughout the day
- Remind students at the end of the day to bring their fruit or vegetables for the next day
- Use the weekly or monthly tally for students to stamp or colour as a record of their participation
- Use the weekly or monthly tally of the days during the week that fruit or vegetables and water were eaten during the Crunch&Sip® classroom break
